Breakfast at the hotel
08:30 hrs After breakfast, we visit the Goa Gajah Cave (Elephant Cave) off Ubud-Gianyar. The cave, which dates back to at least 11th century, was excavated in 1922. The entrance is a monstrous head with a gaping mouth, with hands that appear to be pushing apart the entrance. All around are fantastically carved leaves, animals, waves and humans running from the mouth in fear.. Then we continue through local villages and small roads to Klungkung, the former regency of Klungkung. Visit the Kerta Gosa, or Hall of Justice. The present justice hall, actually an open bale, is beautifully laid out within a moat and provides an exquisite example of the Klungkung style of painting and architecture.

Then proceed on the costal road with full view to Nusa Penida to visit the Goa Lawah (Bat Cave). This cave, whose walls vibrate with thousands of bats, is considered holy, and a temple and surrounding shrines protect the entrance. It is said that the cave leads all the way to Besakih.

The original water palace built in 1948 was damaged in the 1963 eruption of Gunung Agung. The palace consists of several swimming pools and ornamental ponds, which serve as a fascinating reminder of the old days of the Balinese rajahs. Afterwards, depart crossing the volcanic range to the northwestern part of the island. We will pass through the villages of Bebandem and Selat, while circling around Mount Agung. Stop in Putung for the panorama over the eastern bay.
Afterwards, we continue to visit the temple Besakih, the so called Mother Tempel of Bali as it houses ancestral shrines for all Hindu Balinese. Besakih, is actually a complex of nearly 24 temples. It originated most probably as a terraced sanctuary in the eight century, where worship and offerings were made to the god of Gunung Agung. ,br>
Then continue to Kintamani. Inscriptions from the 10th century indicate that Kintamani – a high mountainous area that takes its name from the wind-blown town at 1,500 meters – was one of the earliest known kingdoms in Bali.
